What a DISC

Yet another interesting day in our management class trying to determine the types of personalities we all have. I ended up scoring the most in the Dominance category and then the Conscientiousness category as my second highest. That makes my managerial style Dc. I feel as this describes me fairly accurately after looking at the description for Dominance in that I feel I do tend to make quick decisions and try to solve problems. In high stress situations I tend to try and take control and make things happen rather then sit around. I have no problem making a decision when it comes down to it and fighting for that decision if I think it is right. Then there is the C part of me. I feel like it complements my D personality well because I tend to try and make informed decisions and the C part of me likes to stay informed and make sure things are correct. I try to think analytically and try to reason with people. When I know a decision is correct though because I made sure it was myself, I will make sure that it gets done. I don't really wish I was another type but if I had to choose I would choose Influence rather then Conscientiousness as my second highest profile trait. I suppose anyone can become another type if they just try to change the way that they think and handle situations.

While this test can prove to be useful in determining what kind of personality someone has, it does not mean that they do not have any of the other kinds as well and depending on the situation at hand they could let one of the other traits shine through their most dominant one. I think it is a good start to tell if someone has the right personality for a job in a business setting but it should not be the only factor being weighed. I think a much more in depth look needs to be taken at a person to determine something like if they should be hired for an important position or whatever the case may be.

  1. I agree that depending on the situation, we can change how we act and how we handle things. I am also Dc type and I believe it really describes me how I am. Yes ,this should not be the only factor being weighted in hiring somebody or deciding where they fit as a person. It looks like the test proved for you what you are thinking you are , your personality and the way you handle decisions and problems.

  2. Good for you to have the dominance personality trait. I need to develop that as I can never make-up my mind about things...it's annoying. I had Influence and C as my second personality trait as well.

  3. Both of our personalities are perfect for being a ranking officer. Who knows, maybe we'll both be sergeants in the SCPD one day. Dc is a great personality (especially for a police officer) becuase as you said, you make quick informed decisions which is paramount in that line of work.

  4. I admire that you can make a quick informed decision, and as Chris said its a great trait to have as a cop.
And I agree with you 100% that a test like this might be a good base to see if someone's personality is suited to the job, but it shouldn't determine everything.
